Incumbent inspects and repairs historic steam and diesel locomotives and historic railroad cars to applicable standards. Troubleshoot cause of mechanical problems and make necessary operational repairs. Incumbent understands the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Ensures compliance with NPS 28, 29/49 CFR, and AAR standards where applicable.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: The physical effort must be considered very sever, because of the unusual site, locations, of many of these structures.
