ABOUT THE POSITION
This position is located in the Office of General Counsel CMS Division serving as the principal legal advisor and counselor on defensive litigation brought against the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Directs all aspects of CMSD litigation, including review and evaluation of cases, strategy development, briefing, oral advocacy, and settlement negotiations. Works to ensure consistent legal interpretations throughout the division and with other offices to maintain administrative procedures and policies of the division, Office of General Counsel, and Health and Human Services.
You must have earned a professional law degree (e.g., J.D.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be an active member and be in good standing of the Bar in a State or territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. You must include a copy of current/active Bar Membership under supporting documents tab "license" and transcripts.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Probationary Period:
An individual's initial SES career appointment becomes final only after the individual successfully completes a one year probationary period.
