A NAVIGATOR (INSTRUCTOR), GS, 2183, 12,
Navigates advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, high performance military fighter aircraft on tactical/non-tactical assigned missions using advanced precision instrument flight techniques in conjunction with air navigational aids. Directs pilots to fly within flight parameters(e.g. speed and loading) to execute normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all- weather condition from point to point (domestic/foreign) using fully adequate landing areas. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions. Maintains mission qualifications in the unit equipped (UE) aircraft. (35%)
Prepares for flight to include: securing current and forecast weather information to determine conditions along the proposed route of flight and at the destination; plans the flight through the study of charts to determine routing, intermediate stops, alternate destination, fuel requirements, estimated flying time, and if required, files the aircraft flight plan and reviews aircraft and personnel diplomatic entry requirements; checks and verifies that the airplane is ready for flight, including aspects as defensive equipment and expendables loading, maintenance or service conditions, performing prescribed preflight checks, reviewing load weight, chute type, and positioning for air drop loads, and obtaining the proper clearances to begin the flight. Directs operations of the aircraft with the utmost safety to include: adhering to flight procedures and parameters in the airplane flight manual, communicating and coordinating with ground units and controlling activities, monitors performance of the airplane and progress of the flight, recommends corrective actions to resolve any abnormal conditions. Accomplishes post-flight activities to include: maintaining air craft logs and forms; writing flight reports, coordinating with maintenance personnel on service conditions; and conducts post-flight checks. (15%)
Performs Flight Examining functions which include: evaluating the performance of air crewmembers completing initial training; instructing, evaluating, and examining rated instructors; providing periodic flight evaluations of rated aircrew members; and administering re qualification evaluations. (15%)
Group Self-Assessement Program Manager: Serves as the Group Commander's principal advisor and provides technical expert to group personnel on the Air Force Inspection System (AFIS). Plans, directs and manages the activities of the Inspector General office, directing the Commander's Inspection Program (CCIP) and overseeing the group's self-assessment, exercise and inspection programs. Ensures programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet the needs of the organization. Identifies areas of non-compliance and confirms deficiency resolution. Inspects unit's ability to perform wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit mobility, deployment, strange field operations/employment and redeployment of the unit according to the unit's wartime, base, state and national tasking. Coordinates with the gaining DoD/IG, SAF/IG, NGB-IG, MAJCOM IG, ANG/IG, WG/IG and appropriate state and theater headquarters, as required. (35%)

Area 2: Current Minnesota National Guard Title 32 Technicians who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired at a sister component that is identified on the Position Vacancy Announcement (PVA), including onboard Title 5 employees that are also current members of MNNG; i.e. Army MNNG to Air MNNG, Air MNNG to Army MNNG.
Area 3: All Minnesota National Guard members currently assigned to the MNANG or to the MNARNG applying for a position within the component in which they are currently assigned. i.e. temporary technician or Traditional Guardsman.
Area 4: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the Minnesota National Guard, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard.
Area 5: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Minnesota National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians.

Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of appropriate education, experience, training, self-development activities, and special awards. MINNESOTA AIR NATIONAL GUARD
This position is located at the unit level in the Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group at flying units in the ANG. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to navigate unit equipped (UE) aircraft. Positions specifically covered by this series include (1) Instructor Navigators/CSO's for heavy multiengine transport or tanker aircraft and (2) Instructor Weapon Systems Specialists in fighter or reconnaissance aircraft. Instructor positions are covered since their career relationships are in the aircraft operation field and the positions have as their paramount requirement experience and training in air navigation. In addition to navigation responsibilities, performs administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.
