The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency that provides support to advance and disseminate knowledge in all of the disciplines of the humanities: history, literature, linguistics, archaeology, jurisprudence and the history, criticism and theory of the arts.
In support of the NEH mission, the NEH Pathways Internship Program provides paid opportunities for current students accepted for enrollment in qualifying educational programs.

To be eligible for the NEH Pathways Internship Program, the individual must be a Unites States citizen or Foreign National who has been accepted for enrollment or will be enrolled and seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree in a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. Half-time status is determined by the individual school.

Pathways Student Interns will perform some and/or all of the following duties in support of the various offices and divisions within the NEH:
Office of the Chair - The Office of the Chair is seeking an intern to support administrative functions, such as developing materials for briefings, reports, presentations, conferences, and other special projects regarding the Chair's strategic priorities.
Office of the Assistant Chair for Partnership and Strategic Initiatives - The Intern may perform a variety of responsibilities that advance the strategic and partnership priorities of the agency; support the development and design of new partnerships that integrate humanities and culture into other sectors (including energy, community development, and education, among others); assist in building federal and philanthropic relationships in service of the broader humanities field; and in collaboration with staff, develop stories to highlight select NEH, state and jurisdictional council partnerships.
Office of Data and Evaluation - The Office of Data and Evaluation was founded in 2023 to conduct data-driven analysis of NEH activities and impact and to support research on the state of the humanities. ODE seeks two graduate student interns to assist the office with data collection and grant making activities and to conduct research aligned with the office's mission.
Congressional Affairs - Interns will conduct research to support the work of the Office of Congressional Affairs, and organize events and meetings on Capital Hill to promote the work of NEH, as well as the humanities more broadly.
Office of Publications - Interns will assist with production of Humanities magazine and other editorial/communications projects underway in Publications or Communications, participate in discussions of NEH communications plans and the magazine's editorial plans, research and write at least one short feature story for Humanities magazine, and Conduct research for Office of Publications.
Office of Communications - Interns will assist with research for NEH Communications materials; assist with NEH social media, research and contribute copy; assist with production of Communications graphic materials, with Canva or Photoshop; assist in media monitoring and image research; compilation of background briefing materials for NEH communications or events; and assist in NEH marketing efforts writing copy for NEH website or other materials.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.
