The incumbent of this position serves as an associate deputy to the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation/Science and Data Policy (DASPE/SDP) providing executive leadership, direction, and coordination of the Department's science and data policy development and implementation. The incumbent acts on behalf of the DASPE/SDP and the ASPE in meetings and other situations with senior officials of the Department, other Federal agencies, the Congress, and other public and private entities.
The incumbent's principal focus is on development and assessment of preparedness, public health, science and data policies for health and human services programs. In addition, he/she serves as an advisor to the DASPE/SDP and the ASPE on departmental preparedness, public health, science and data policy matters, including those concerning public and private services, legislation, research and regulation.
Incumbent also has responsibility for developing and coordinating implementation of research and evaluation plans for the DASPE/SDP and the ASPE for preparedness, public health, science and data policy programs of the Department in order to improve program effectiveness and efficiency. The incumbent is responsible for identifying the best practices, innovations, and developing methods for ensuring their adoption in appropriate Department programs. Tracks the achievement of established goals and objectives.
The incumbent works with the DASPE/SDP to develop and monitor operational and policy goals and objectives for the Office of Science and Data Policy and supervises the functioning of staff elements in meeting these objectives. The incumbent supervises the development and execution of budgets and other resources plans related to these goals and objectives for the DASPE/SDP and the ASPE. The performance of the duties and responsibilities of this position requires a full knowledge of and responsiveness to the views and the policies of the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. There must be a close relationship with the DASPE/SDP and the ASPE.

Salary:
Salary for Senior Executive Service positions varies depending on qualifications. The annual salary range may be found at the top of this announcement. This position may be eligible for performance bonuses and performance based pay adjustments.
Probationary Period:
Selectee must serve a one-year probationary period unless s/he previously completed one year the Senior Executive Service.
Standards of Conduct/Financial Disclosure:
