Do you enjoy creative problem solving that will contribute to automating processes, developing workflows, working with large amounts of digital content, and making digital collections accessible? The Digital Collections Management & Services Division (DCMS) is seeking a Senior Digital Collections Data Librarian to join its dedicated, engaged, and innovative staff. DCMS manages a variety of digital general collections including content collected through the Library’s web archiving program, eBooks, e-Journals, digitized general collections materials, bulk datasets, and more! DCMS maintains custodial responsibility for general digital collections materials, facilitating born digital acquisitions, conducting research and testing on digital content management methods and practices, and developing policy and procedures for the management of digital content. Our staff liaise and collaborate with a variety of staff across the Library. As a Senior Digital Collections Data Librarian, you will play a key role in enabling computational use of the Library’s born digital and digitized collections and implementation of a coordinated approach to support use of collections for digital scholarship. If you have experience with managing datasets and leading associated programmatic activities like consulting with key internal and external stakeholders, we encourage you to apply.
Transforms data from identified digital collections, such as born digital collections including born digital content, digitized books, and web archives, into datasets ready for computational use. Leads efforts to develop workflows for creating datasets and long-term preservation of data for future transformations. Provides analysis and advice, and develops solutions to solve issues and problems associated with digital lifecycle management of collections and derived datasets.
Within the broad framework of program strategies and goals, monitors use of digital collection datasets; identifies or contributes to the development of innovative tools (such as metrics) and processes for the management and preservation of digital collections datasets. Advises on formats, tools, standards, and infrastructure to enable greater researcher use of the digital collections.
Works with division staff to define, develop, implement and monitor plans for the lifecycle management of digital collections datasets. Works with division staff to establish effective and robust operational processes and coordinate among stakeholders.
Advises on facilitating computational use of digital library collections. Coordinates digital workflow activities with specialists in curatorial units throughout LCSG and the Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Consults with Library staff, Library users and researchers to understand digital content-related research needs. Engages with local, regional, and international groups to learn and share knowledge, experience and ideas.
Responsible for the planning, management, and execution of digital collections dataset projects. Plans, tests, and executes projects that involve identifying, transforming, describing, storing, managing, providing access to, and supporting use of digital collections datasets.
Coordinates, determines, and manages projects for digital collections and associated datasets. Ensures that assigned projects are completed on time and achieve the desired objectives. Identifies opportunities for improving the performance of existing workflows.
