Help

Serves as Agency Expert and provides leadership in planning and carrying out a program of technical assistance aimed at improving the nutrition components of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Develops objectives, plans, organizes, coordinates the establishment of priorities and operational guidelines, and provides technical resources for the nutrition component of SNAP.
Participates with Branch Chief in discussions with upper management to determine long range plans and priorities, discuss recommendations for policy or procedural changes, and the possible outcome of such changes.
Formulates position papers, statements, instructions, regulations, and guidance materials which establish policies, broad goals, and objectives for the nutrition component of the SNAP program.
Represents the Agency at professional and technical meetings, handling requests for information which may be incorporated into news releases, speeches, articles, or other communications, and may contribute to decisions by USDA administrator policy.

Basic Requirement:
To qualify for the Dietician and Nutritionist job series, all applicants must meet at least one of the following degree requirements by the closing date of the job announcement:

Successful completion of a degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science in an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists. (You must attach proof of completion, to include AND/ADA verification.)
OR
Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). (You must attach a copy of your registration.)
OR
You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. (You must provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.)

In addition to the basic requirements, you must also meet the minimum qualifications for this position: To qualify for the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in Federal or Public Service. Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis:

Summarizing, analyzing and applying scientific evidence and data to inform programmatic priorities, and/or identify the impact of laws and regulations on public health nutrition policies or program operations;
Directing, managing or advising on public health nutrition project timelines and budgets within resource and time constraints by establishing objectives/tasks, identifying issues and opportunities; and
Communicating orally and in writing with a wide array of audiences, including senior leadership, managers and staff, policy makers, program partners, and/or nutrition professionals in order to provide subject-matter expertise and leadership in carrying out public health nutrition and nutrition education goals.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
