Working Conditions: Work is performed in extremes of temperature conditions inside and outside the buildings. The incumbent is subject to burns, electrical shocks, cuts, and bruises. Occasionally, the incumbent must work on top of tall buildings in drafty attic spaces and cramped areas with low overheads. Protective clothing and/or equipment are required when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants or other toxic conditions.
Physical Effort: Duties are performed on ladders and in cramped, crowded quarters. Considerable physical effort is used when working on parts or systems that are in hard-to-reach places. Employees must bend, stoop, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work requires close eye-hand coordination, walking, bending, and prolonged periods of standing. Must frequently carry and set up parts and equipment that weigh 30 to 50 pounds. Hoists, holders, and pulleys are operated when removing units such as large compressors, condensers, and chillers. The incumbent uses ladders, scaffolding, and platforms to make repairs and installations.
