Duties

Help
  • You will serve as a Civilian Deputy Director of the United States Military Academy (USMA) Technical Scholars Program (TSP).
  • Contribute to the five faculty domains of teaching, scholarship, service, cadet development, and faculty development.
  • Design, develop, teach, and maintain challenging interdisciplinary courses, to include a technical communications course for USMA TSP, to in support of cadet and faculty scholarship.
  • Manage USMA TSP operations, to include mentoring cadets on scholarship opportunities and overseeing submission of scholarship applications.
  • Coordinate institutional support and letters of recommendation, manage the internal selection process for nationally and internationally competitive scholarships, and track/analyze data for knowledge management.
  • Coordinate and manage out-of-classroom developmental experiences for cadets, to include research, internships, and field trips.
  • Manage administrative duties for the USMA TSP, to include organizing guest speakers from science and technology industry, engagements, events, logistics, budgeting, reports, and public affairs.
  • Build and maintain an effective communication strategy to sustain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement, dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering preferred); 2) Ability to teach Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering courses at the undergraduate level; 3) Ability to advise and manage multiple, complex engineering projects and cultivate a portfolio of defense-related research in their field of expertise; 4) Demonstration of research, scholarship, or professional practice through publications or technical reports within the field of expertise; and 5) Ability or demonstrated potential to mentor cadets through effective written and oral communication in English.
