The Assistant Chief of Environmental Management Department (Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer) is a responsible partner of the executive management staff sharing in a full and joint management relationship with other staff officials. The
incumbent is responsible for integrating short, intermediate, and long-range planning
that meet the changing dynamics of a highly active, affiliated medical center complex.
Incumbent will serve as Acting Chief of EMO in that person's absence.
The incumbent plans and directs an operation to fully coordinate the
Environmental Management Department activities with an absolute minimal amount of
disruption. Maintenance of acceptable standards for all activities and areas for the Joint
Commission (T JC) environment of care standards must be maintained on an on-going
basis. Ongoing programs must be continually monitored and optimized to insure the
best utilization of staffing, funds and equipment. The quality of services and programs
provided by staff directly impact the mission of medical center at all organizational levels
and also has a direct influence on the public relations image of the facility. The Assistant Chief of EMO is the Deputy Linen Control Officer for the health system's
operation. As the Deputy Linen Control Officer, he/she is responsible for the planning,
controlling and directing of the service to include budget development, staff needs,
equipment needs & utilization of all available resources to ensure adequate supplies of
linen for a multi-site operation. The incumbent is responsible for the Interior Design and Signage Program for the
VAMC and the multiple off site locations. The program includes the planning,
organizing, directing, controlling and evaluation of these functions. Physical size, age
and diverse activities present at these facilities require a great deal of planning and
coordination to ensure a uniform and aesthetic appearance across all physical
locations. He/she is responsible for the Integrated Pest Management Program for the Salem
VAMC, to include planning, organizing, directing, controlling and evaluating the
effectiveness of the program which is accomplished by contracting services.
