Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. SCOPE OF DUTIES:
The Physician, when providing direct patient care, delivery of such should include assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and outcome measures of healthcare problems. This includes, but is not limited to, initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens, performing histories and physicals, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals, and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, Federal & state regulations, and scope of practice. The Physician will also execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership,
experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The Physician is responsible for medical care delivered by the HBPC teams he/she is assigned to, reports to the HBPC Medical Director and works in collaboration with the HBPC Program Director to meet the requirements of the programs. The Physician may have a faculty appointment and be involved in academic activities with affiliated Medical Schools or residency program when applicable.
The Physician is responsible for the following duties, including but not limited to:
1. Collaborating with the HBPC Medical Director and/or Program Director.
a. Provide leadership to the HBPC Program.
b. Plan and direct the educational and clinical experience of medical students, residents, and fellows assigned to HBPC.
c. Assume a leadership role in the development and implementation of the HBPC performance improvement plan.
d. Advocate for HBPC with VHA leadership and the medical community.
e. Participate in selection HBPC Team members.
2. Completing assigned duties and tasks related to HBPC
3. Providing clinical input and oversight for all patient treatment plans for HBPC.
4. Being readily available to HBPC team members for collaboration when medical or
other problems arise.
5. Participating in HBPC team meetings.
6. Keeping the HBPC teams apprised of medical care advances and practice standards.
7. Arranging Physician coverage and communicating the plan of coverage to the HBPC
team.
8. Collaborating with other HBPC Medical Directors, VISN leadership, and VA Central
Office staff on program development issues.
9. Assuming primary medical responsibility for HBPC patients.
10. Identifying the patients' medical problems.
11. Defining the medical management of these problems.
12. Determining the need for consultation from medical, surgical, and/or psychiatric subspecialty clinics.
13. Determining the need for, and facilitating, admission to the hospital.
14. Visiting the HBPC patients at home, when appropriate.
15. Serving as collaborator and/or Physician delegate for advanced practice nurses.
16. Providing medical administrative support such as signing forms requiring Physician signature for the HBPC patients.
17. Serving as acting Medical Director upon the absence of the Medical Director. Collaborating with community home health and hospice agencies as needed for HBPC patients.
18. Following HBPC Staff Safety procedures.
19. Complying with Medical Center and VHA regulations regarding the use of government vehicles.
20. Demonstrating work practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment.
Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m - 4:30 p.m.
