As a Research Scientist (Assistant Unit Leader) within the Kansas Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit, some of your specific duties will include:

For GS-13:
In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience at the GS-12 level may include: experience that is in a directly related to a field of study appropriate for the position, which includes demonstrated experience in: (1) developing and applying advanced quantitative procedures to estimate and model spatial and/or long-term temporal variation in populations to understand drivers of change and inform harvest management and applied conservation; (2) developing and conducting interdisciplinary field studies, establishing and maintaining an effective collaboration with state and federal fish and wildlife resource agencies, focusing on game species, but might also integrate non-game wildlife; (3) acquiring funding for applied research that supports state and federal agency conservation priorities in Kansas and across the region; and (4) teaching graduate-level courses with emphasis in wildlife management, populations demography, or quantitative modeling.
The applicant will be required to maintain a graduate faculty appointment in the Division of Biology, and participate on university and graduate committees, graduate advising, and other tasks that are shared by departmental faculty as appropriate.
