The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is currently searching for a Cardiac Cath Lab & Non-Invasive Cardiac Lab RN. S/he will rotate through the Heart Station, Cath Lab & on-call schedule. S/he must possess knowledge of both non-invasive cardiology procedures & invasive Cath lab procedures to include Electrophysiology studies. Must have experience with moderate sedation.

The Registered Nurse for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab/Heart Station will manage the care of patients with complex coronary nursing care needs, and guide and direct others who provide care, to include: conscious sedation of patient undergoing coronary catherization/TEEs/cardioversions/ICD/pacemakers/and EP studies, assessing the patient's response during invasive procedures, incisional care/monitoring and assessing hemodynamic, psychosocial, electrolyte alterations and maintain a safe environment.
S/he will demonstrate proficiency in the use of equipment in the pre/post procedure patient such as R-bands/TR-bands, IABP, IMPELLAS and temporary pacemakers. Other essential duties include: nursing assessments, administering medication, admissions, recovery, discharge and transfer activities, patient and family teaching, developing nursing care plans, administering prescribed treatment, patient care coordination and documentation. You will be expected to actively participate in unit improvement activities and evidence-based practice projects.
The Heart Station/Cath lab nurse will be utilized both in direct and in-direct patient care and will be part of the on-call schedule rotation. S/he will have additional responsibilities as determined by the Nurse Manager.
The Heart Station/Cath Lab nurse must live within 25 minutes of the facility to respond to STEMI when on-call.
Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
