The Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA), part of the Office of the Director at NSF leads the strategy, development and execution of outreach and communication activities to Congress, the media and the general public to communicating the vital mission of NSF to the general public. OLPA works directly with NSF programs and offices and provides staff assistance to the Office of the Director and leadership of NSF.
To carry out these responsibilities, OLPA develops speeches, congressional testimony, publications, print and electronic releases and productions, videos, website content, special communications efforts, events, and projects designed to reach NSF's target audiences and constituencies. OLPA acts as a major liaison to many of NSF's internal and external audiences. These include formal and informal contacts with Members of Congress and their staffs, the executive branch, governors and other state officials, colleges and universities, professional organizations, key corporate leaders, business and industry groups and associations, print and electronic media, and members of the general public.
The Deputy Office Head serves as the primary assistant to the Office Head and will have significant responsibility for the day-to-day management and strategic direction of the office and in coordinating legislative and public affairs activities across NSF. The Deputy Office Head also serves as the Acting Office Head in the absence of the incumbent and all branch chiefs report to the Deputy Office Head.

The Senior Executive Service (SES) covers managerial positions above GS-15 in the Federal Service. Persons appointed to the SES are eligible for health benefits, life insurance, social security, Federal retirement and thrift savings plan coverage, and participate in the Federal leave system. Competitive status is not required, veteran's preference does not apply and there are no grade restrictions.
Relocation expenses may be paid contingent upon the availability of funds.
