This position is in the Division of Resource Management and serves a network of 12 National Park units in the Midwestern Great Lakes region. The employee performs as a member of the Great Lakes Invasive Plant Management Team field crew. Primary duties include removal of invasive plants using manual and chemical methods.
The employee performs invasive plant control through the use of herbicides and manual tools. The employee makes educated decisions to resolve problems in the field without direct supervision. He/she is expected to collect data using a GPS unit and must be able to identify invasive plants and native plants in the field. The employee may be called on to handle details regarding vehicle care, storage and use of pesticides, maintenance and use of spray equipment and hand tools, and documentation of fieldwork.
The duties of this position require the employee to be in good physical condition. Considerable time will be spent driving, hiking in hazardous terrain, and using tools and equipment. Field time will subject the employee to extreme weather conditions (i.e., temperatures over 100 degree F in the summer) and heavy insect outbreaks. Occasional time will also be spent in an office environment reviewing data, transcribing information, and maintaining equipment. Mental alertness, stability, and tact in dealing with program partners and the public are required.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
