Providing strategic vision, guidance, and direction to ensure that the ACUS fulfills its mission. This includes exercising management control and leadership of a team of attorneys, who make up the research staff.
Developing the research agenda-with input from Chairman, Council, members of ACUS, and other interested persons-and presenting it to the ACUS Chairman.
Supervising the research attorneys, who are responsible for identifying areas for research, preparing plans for research, assisting ACUS committees and the ACUS Assembly in their consideration of research projects and draft recommendations, and promoting implementation of recommendations adopted by the ACUS Assembly. Research attorneys, under the supervision of the Research Director and/or another member of the executive management team, are also responsible for coordinating efforts to arrange for the interchange among agencies of useful information about administrative procedure. Such efforts may include, among other projects, public events, interagency roundtables, working groups, and the publication and dissemination of written updates and reference materials.
Monitoring executive, legislative, and judicial developments to identify actions and decisions that may affect that work of the ACUS or the operation and administration of the agency itself. Working with the executive management team, this individual is also responsible for developing background and briefing materials that serve as resources for ACUS communications with the three branches of the Federal Government, the media, and stakeholders in the work of the ACUS.

The Administrative Conference of the United States (ACUS) is an independent agency that studies the efficiency, adequacy, and fairness of the administrative procedures used by executive departments and agencies and makes recommendations to all three branches of the Federal Government. The Administrative Conference is a body of experts charged with making recommendations to Congress and federal agencies concerning the efficiency, soundness, and fairness of agency procedures. The ACUS organizes and facilitates administrative law experts' studies of many aspects of the problems affecting government decision-making, especially administrative rulemaking, and settlement of enforcement matters, and it recommends ways to improve regulatory efficiency. The ACUS may gather information and statistics from administrative agencies; conduct and publish pertinent studies and potentially provide assistance to all three branches of government.
