The Physician Supervisor provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for Primary Care programs to ensure achievement of the clinical, research, and education goals and applicable performance measures. The Lead Physician is accountable for the supervision of all Primary Care clinicians (MD, DO, NP and PAs) assigned to their duty location.

Functions and Responsibilities:
The Physician Supervisor must be proficient in all aspects of the general practice of Primary Care. Specifically,
the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:
1. Fully implement the components and processes relative to the VHA Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH)
healthcare system design.
2. Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned by TVHS.
3. Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health problems for scheduled and unscheduled patients in the clinic
setting.
4. Perform histories and physical exams.
5. Provides appropriate documentation to minimally include history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, definitive care plan and disposition of the patient.
6. Ensures that patients are appropriately closed-out including disposition that clearly indicates the next steps of care.
7. Ensures that each patient is provided a list of current medications and an appointment list at close-out.
8. Perform office procedures contained within approved privileges.
9. Prescribe medications as appropriate.
10. Order routine laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests and provide initial interpretation of results.
11. Communicate test results to patients.
12. Respond to questions and other inquiries from patients.
13. Initiate or expedite requests for consultations and special tests.
14. Provide education to the patient and family as necessary.
15. Order immunizations and other preventive or screening services as necessary.
16. Screen patients to determine the need for hospitalization.
17. Perform Basic Life Support as necessary.
18. Communicate clinical findings to other providers using the Computerized Patient Record System.
19. Function as the managing physician for nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as assigned by TVHS.
20. Function as a preceptor for residents in the clinic setting as assigned by TVHS.
21. Treats patients 18 years of age or greater
22. Consistently communicates and treats customers, (veterans, their representatives, visitors and all VA staff in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner. Incumbent will provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures and will handle conflicts and problems when dealing with
customers constructively and appropriately.
23. Incumbent will protect printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws Federal Regulations, VA statures and policy and VHA
policy. Incumbent protects data from unauthorized release, or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion and follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files and release of
access codes, etc.
24. Uses common word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers, inserting and deleting text; formatting letters,
reports and memoranda, and transmitting and receiving e-mail. Uses common spreadsheet software to
develop and change spreadsheets to graphically display data. Uses common presentation software to
develop presentation materials. Uses the Veterans Health Information & Technology Architecture (VISTA)
and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to access information in the Medical Center Computer
System.
25. Other duties as assigned.
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: MAY be provided for highly skilled individuals.
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

EDRP Position Information: This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. You must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA Policy and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services Office.
