As a Pathways Student Trainee (Mathematics & Statistics), you will:
- Learn the scope and foundation of statistical principles and practices and assist the Bureau of the Actuary and Research in completing day-to-day operations.
- Research issues to provide general mathematical and statistical services
- Complete on-the-job and formal training as identified in your individual development plan and perform developmental assignments with the assistance of a higher-graded employee or supervisor within the bureau.

This is an Excepted Service Appointment. This is an Excepted Service appointment. As a part of the Pathways Internship Program, the appointment may be extended until the selectee's educational program requirements have been completed. The student intern may be converted, without a break in service to a term (time-limited) or permanent appointment upon graduation, provided they are a US citizen who has worked at least 640 hours in an appropriate program and receive a favorable recommendation from the supervisor for retention. There is no guarantee of a permanent position following this internship. The selectee is on a trial period while on a Pathways Internship appointment.
