Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) is the principal NASA Center responsible for the implementation of the Space Science and Applications program, the Earth Science and Applications program, and Space Communications and Navigations programs. Major segments of the in-house NASA competence in the field of Earth and Space and Applications reside at GSFC.
Specifically:
-Leads strategic planning and management of research, development, implementation, launch, and operations for NASA's efforts in science, space communications and operations, and space technology to expand and strengthen workforce skills and technical capabilities to meet NASA mission objectives. Leads multidisciplinary teams in these critical Agency capabilities, including earth science, solar science, planetary science, space tracking and data systems, space communications and navigation, suborbital programs and range services, astrophysics, and heliophysics.
-Develops innovative solutions and strategic direction that drive change, further the Agency's mission, and deepen Research and Development (R&D) and leadership capabilities across the center and Agency. Leads the Center in new technology development initiatives from concept to commercialization.
-Champions the Agency's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility strategic plan and programs. Creates an environment that promotes and enables the Agency's commitment to Safety, Inclusion, Integrity, Teamwork, and Excellence.
-Develops partnerships and collaborations with internal and external organizations such as industry, governmental, academic, and international organizations and key influences to advance NASA's mission, agenda, services, initiatives, and platforms; builds awareness of NASA priorities and works with external stakeholders and the public. Champions and enables new business and partnership opportunities.
-Partners with Agency Mission Directorates, Centers, Technical Authorities, and Mission Support organizations to drive and implement Agency requirements and mitigate risk.
-Serves as a key member in providing recommendations and decisions on Agency governance councils, Strategic Management Councils, Program Reviews, Flight Readiness Reviews, etc.
-Provides and manages an institutional base for long term stewardship of a national capability in support of NASA, other Federal and state agencies, and components of U.S. industry engaged in advanced research, science, engineering, technology
A degree in engineering, science, or equivalent field of study is preferred.
