Basic Requirements:
Degree: Soil science or a closely related discipline that included 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological, physical, or earth science, with a minimum of 15 semester hours in such subjects as Soil Genesis, Pedology, Soil Chemistry, Soil Physics, and Soil Fertility. Related disciplines include: Soil Science, Crop Science, Pedology, Edaphology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or Biological Science.
Or
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in Soil Science or a related discipline that included at least 30 semester hours in the biological, physical, or earth sciences. At least 15 of these semester hours must have been in the related disciplines specified above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
Minimum Qualifications: In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet additional qualification requirements as stated below.
GS-11: Eligibility Requirements (Experience):
Applicants must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position includes planning, implementing, and completion of field and laboratory research projects.
OR
Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Related degrees include: Soil Science, Crop Science, Pedology, Edaphology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Microbiology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or Biological Science.
OR
Combination of education and specialized experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education, as described above.
Physical Demands:
The work requires walking, standing for prolonged periods of time, kneeling, bending, reaching, sitting, and manual dexterity to work in a field, laboratory, and office setting. The incumbent must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Frequent travel and driving to research sites inside and outside the state are required.
Work Environment:
Work involves exposure to moderate risks and discomforts in the field, laboratory, and office settings. Exposures include herbicides, insecticides, potentially allergenic pollen and irritating plant parts, insects, extremes in heat and humidity, noisy machinery, hydraulic sampling equipment, solvents, acids, bases, and prolonged sitting or standing. Work requires use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, coats, and waterproof gear.
