Duties
- Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
- Interpret circuit wiring, logic cable diagrams, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and equipment to understand the function and interconnections of the various assemblies and troubleshoot systems.
- Support professional engineers in performing experiments, research, and development activities requiring an in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles.
- Interpret and apply pertinent information from verbal instructions, detailed engineering drawings, appropriate manuals, electronic sources, and handbooks in order to develop substrates, sensors, and hardware.
- Develop processes for arranging, mounting, and wiring components on a chassis to assure that possible sources of electrical interference are physically isolated or shielded.
- Under the supervision of a qualified technician, design, fabricate, and develop prototyping processes to perform fabrication of models. Select proper materials to produce the desired cuts and finish on each material.
- Complete required formal and on-the-job training to demonstrate an increasing ability to independently accomplish assignments. Complete assigned tasks following established procedures and schedules.
- Interact with co-workers and supervisors, demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other persons. Work with qualified technicians in performing the procedural tasks of the organization.
- Recognize the need for and solicit guidance and assistance when previous instructions do not provide adequate information. Develop and coordinate contacts beneficial to the successful performance of assignments.

Qualifications
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-07, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service that includes interpreting circuit wiring, logic cable diagrams, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and equipment;
OR
b) Completed at least one full academic year of graduate education in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
OR
c) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education.
To qualify for GS-08, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service that includes troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic instrumentations; and preparing technical reports identifying and elaborating on any deficiencies, failures and recurring systems or equipment malfunctions;
OR
b) Completed at least 2 full academic years of graduate education in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
OR
c) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education.
To qualify for GS-09, you must have:
a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service that includes conducting routine maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, operation, calibration, and testing of all electronic and electro-mechanical equipment with limited oversight by senior technicians; and preparing detailed technical reports on all phases of the equipment operation in order to report any conditions or circumstances, which would tend to cause the defect or malfunction;
OR
b) Completed all requirements for a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
OR
c) Completed at least 2 full academic years of graduate education in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
OR
d) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education
