Your assignments will consist of performing technical work to support ATF programs in an organizational unit. You will perform a wide variety of assignments to assist management in designated areas such as: office administrative duties, supply management, purchasing, budgeting, human resources, data processing, and file management. Your assignments will consist of responding to routine office inquiries; interpreting guidelines to complete recurring assignments; maintaining inventory records; monitoring and scheduling appointments; compiling and maintaining office data; and recording and filing case files. You will be expected to acquire knowledge of rules, regulations, and other guidelines to complete these assignments in the program areas assigned to you.
Below are ATF Mission and Directorates descriptions to provide an overview of the mission of each:
Office of Chief Counsel Mission Statement: The Office of the Chief Counsel is the legal advisor to the ATF Director, executive staff, supervisors, and employees and performs legal services, including training, on the alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives, arson, and civil service laws.
Enforcement Programs and Services: The Office of Enforcement Programs and Services (EPS) develops and delivers programmatic policy guidance and technical support relative to firearms and explosives to all components of the Bureau at both the Headquarters and field operational levels. EPS also drafts the regulations that implement Federal firearms, explosives, alcohol diversion, and tobacco diversion laws within ATF's area of responsibility through its five divisions and Office of Regulatory Affairs.
Office of Field Operations: The Office of the Assistant Director administers the Field Operations Directorate through collaborative efforts between Field Management Staff, Special Operations Division, National Center for Explosives Training and Research, Firearms Operations Division, Industry Operations and NCETR.
Human Resources and Professional Development: Human Resources and Professional Development administers human capital management processes for the Bureau. HRPD's mission is to cultivate a diverse workforce ready for the challenge of reducing violent crime by recruiting qualified individuals, retaining valuable employees, and equipping all employees with the knowledge and skills they need for their current and future Bureau positions.
The Office of Management: The Office of Management oversees ATF's core administrative functions of financial management, asset forfeiture, facilities management, safety programs, acquisitions and property management, serving both internal and external stakeholders.
Office Professional Responsibility and Security Operations: Office of Professional Responsibility and Security Operations (OPRSO), serves as principal advisor to the Director in planning, overseeing, and coordinating security and emergency preparedness, inspection, and internal affairs activities of the Bureau. OPRSO provides a wide array of security and investigative services, assesses and recommends asset protection countermeasures, conducts background investigations, suitability and security adjudications, risk and threat assessments, develops emergency preparedness and business continuity plans and ensures compliance with security policies and regulations.
Public and Governmental Affairs: The mission of the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs (PGA) is to execute communications strategies to: (1) Enhance the public's understanding of ATF's diverse mission; (2) Enable the public to more effectively interact and conduct business with ATF, and (3) Inform Congress, the media, customers and stakeholders of key ATF programs and activities.
Office of Science & Technology: are leaders in innovative application and delivery of technology, information, forensic science services, training, and applied research in furthering the ATF mission.
Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information: The mission of the Office of Strategic Intelligence and Information (OSII) is to provide timely, accurate, and focused intelligence through the collection and analysis of information that enhances decision-making for all Bureau customers and personnel, in support of reducing violent crime, protecting the public, and preventing terrorism.
