This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school.

In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:
Qualification Requirements
This internship is geared toward students majoring in one of the following areas of study: the physical sciences, geology, engineering and/or mathematics.
For GS-05: To be qualified for the Student Trainee (Physical Science) GS-05, you must meet one of the two basic requirements listed below:
A. Successfully completed all requirements for a bachelor's degree in physical science, engineer, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties or materials, and electronics. -OR-
B. Combination of education and experience/course work is equivalent to a major in physical or engineering science or math that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science.
For GS-07: In addition to meeting the basic requirements for GS-05 listed above, you must meet one of the four following requirements to qualify at the GS-07 level:
A. Possess at least 1 year of progressively higher-level graduate education in physical science or other directly related field of study. -OR-
B. Possess Superior Academic Achievement - You must meet one of these: (1) Upper third of graduating class based on completed courses; (2) GPA 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 on official transcript based on 4 years college, or based on courses completed in final 2 years of curriculum, or GPA 3.5 or higher based on average of required major courses competed in final 2 years of curriculum; (3) Member of a national scholastic honor society recognized by Association of College Honor Societies. -OR-
C. Possess at least 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Examples of GS-5 level experience could include taking measurements and collecting information; learning to take proper samples; conducting routine calculating, plotting, and checking of numerical data; preparing graphs and data profiles; and accomplishing routine analyses. This work experience would have involved receiving clear, specific, and detailed instructions as to the methods, procedures, and guidelines to use. -OR-
D. Possess a combination of related graduate level education and appropriate specialized experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

The USGS has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework in accordance with the Department Of Interior Telework policy and with supervisor approval.
