This position is located in the Office of Chief Counsel (CC), Firearms and Explosives Law Division (FELD) in Martinsburg, WV and Washington, DC . The attorney is assigned to the Associate Chief Counsel, Firearms and Explosives Law Division (FELD) and primarily provides legal advice and training to ATF officials on firearms and explosives.
The attorney serves as a legal advisor and provides legal advice and training relating to the agency's regulation of the firearms and explosives industries, and enforcement of the Federal laws pertaining to firearms and explosives. Specifically, the attorney focuses on legal issues regarding the Safe Explosives Act and the National Firearms Act.
The attorney also provides legal advice and training on technical classifications of firearms and explosives under Federal law; importation of firearms, ammunition, and other defense articles under the import provisions of the Federal firearms laws; relief from Federal firearm and explosives disabilities; and matters concerning the issuance of firearms and explosives licenses and permits.
In addition, the attorney drafts and reviews the agency's regulations, rulings, forms, and publications; prepares legal opinions relating to the firearms and explosives laws; conducts related training; and represents ATF at meetings and conferences.

GS-14: In addition to the requirements for the GS-13, applicants must have five years as a practicing attorney; experience advising senior management officials in the area of general criminal law matters, criminal internet investigations. Attorney must also have experience working with issues related to the specialized experience that included a high degree of difficulty and importance, including independently exercising responsibility for the provision of legal advice.
