The Social Worker of the Mental Health/Psychiatry (MH) service provides social work services to veterans receiving care in the outpatient Mental Health Clinic at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary medical team, the MHC Social Worker evaluates the veteran's presenting psychosocial problems and facilitates access to the resources that can most appropriately minimize the veteran's psychosocial stressors.

Duties of the Social Worker of the Mental Health/Psychiatry (MH) service are to include, but not limited to:
Screening/Assessment - In conjunction with the interdisciplinary medical team, the MHC Social Worker
screens and assesses the veteran's psychosocial needs and barriers in order to facilitate his or her access to
appropriate VA and community resources. Through collaborative relationships with the veteran, his or her
family/caregiver and other VA programs and VA staff, the MHC Social Worker coordinates the gathering
of information vital to the process of setting appropriate treatment goals and timeframes for achieving
those goals. Assessment information, comprising the Psychiatry Assessment Template includes, among
other issues:
- Marital/family/social status
- Psychiatric and substance use history
- Employment/educational/financial status
- Use of entitlement programs
- Legal problems/issues
- Impact of medical problems on psychosocial functioning
- Strengths/Limitations
- Military history (especially as it pertains to PTSD)
Treatment Planning/Goal Setting - From screening/assessment information, in coordination with the MHC
multidisciplinary treatment team, the veteran and his/her family, the MHC Social Worker determines
realistic goals with the veteran, including such factors as a) problems, b) goals, c) objectives, c) specific
concrete interventions. Treatment plans are written utilizing the MHTP software.
Case Management - The MHC Social Worker, as the Primary Mental Health Provider for his/her caseload,
will be responsible for all aspects of case management, including (but not necessarily limited to):
- Provision of individual psychotherapy services
- Referral to appropriate group therapy services
- Referral to appropriate psychiatric medication management services
- Referral for appropriate psychological testing services
- Referral to appropriate substance abuse services
- Referral to appropriate medical services
- Crisis management- Follow-through on no-shows, according to the departmental No-show policy
- Regular review and update of progress through treatment plan reviews
- Advocacy
- Education/health promotion
- Non patient care responsibilities (e.g., completing appropriate paperwork for PAIR or other
programs)

HR Office staff must verify your vaccination status prior to issuing a final offer of employment and before you report for New Employee Orientation. In addition, new hires must show vaccination documentation and submit their completed VA FORM 10230, COVID-19 Vaccination Form, to VA HR staff when reporting for New Employee Orientation. HR staff will upload vaccination information in the VA Light Electronic Action Framework (LEAF) system. If you are unable to obtain the COVID-19 vaccination due to a legally covered exception (i.e., medical or religious reasons), VA will provide additional information regarding what information or documentation is needed and how you can request an exception. If you request a legally required exception, you must first complete the VA FORM 10230, COVID-19 Vaccination Form, and return the form to the servicing HR Office staff within 2 business days. The HR Office staff will submit the form to your new supervisor of record for adjudication of the exception request. You may receive a final offer or be appointed while your request for medical or religious exception is being adjudicated. Due to COVID-19, VA is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement.
