Duties
- Duties described below are at the full-performance level. Duties assigned at a lower grade level will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee.
- As Electromagnetic Effects (EME) technical expert, provide leadership, initiate detailed engineering analysis and serve as technical consultant for the development, design, testing, verification and evaluation of spacecraft systems.
- Collaborates with other NASA centers, government agencies, universities, or technical companies to investigate concepts, principles and theories which warrant further research and discuss mutual areas of interest.
- Establishes and defends EME standards and practices for avionics systems including the Multipurpose Crew Vehicle, International Space Station, Gateway and other manned and unmanned vehicles and government furnished equipment (GFE) projects.
- Leads, directs and coordinates technical discipline engineers, laboratory technicians, and students (aka E3: Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Team) engaged in technical work and is responsible for overall management of the EMI Laboratory.
- Manages and directs implementation of EME requirements at the system, subsystem and box level.
- Manages the development, review, analysis, and critique of EME requirements, standards, and specifications commensurate with overall program objectives.
- Provides expert technical guidance, oversight, and resolution of Electromagnetic Effects (EME) issues.
- Represents the organization and external organizations as Technical Discipline Lead.

In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: leading a team and communicating effectively with customers, stakeholders and management; interpreting and applying the principles of electromagnetic effects (EME), including design, practices, EME test methodology, lightning protection, and effects; applying an understanding of the electromagnetic effects of all physical and performance characteristics of avionics hardware and software, including sensors, effectors, computers, displays; and/or supporting Multipurpose Crew Vehicle, International Space Station and Gateway Programs to include technology and advanced state-of-the-art components and systems.

Education
You must have successfully completed a bachelor's or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science, or other field of physical science.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
