The incumbent is a member of the Risk Analytics unit, and participates in the design, development and maintenance of RSB’s risk analytics platform to measure, monitor and assess risk exposures across exchange-traded futures and options, cleared and uncleared swaps, and where appropriate, related cash markets. The risk analytics platform is an integration of data, technology, analytical tools, and reports generation capabilities related to futures and options, swaps, and related cash markets. In addition to interfacing closely with the rest of RSB to assess their needs and collaborating with them on the design of analytical tools, the incumbent independently researches tools and metrics developed by market participants and the academic research community.
As a member of the Risk Analytics unit, the incumbent participates in the design, coordination, and execution of CFTC’s annual Supervisory Stress Tests by collaborating with other RSB and DCR staff, and with other relevant regulatory authorities. The incumbent collaborates with other RSB teams to ensure that there is a feedback loop between the daily risk surveillance activities, periodic supervisory stress tests, and the quantitative assessments of the margin model team. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that tools and analytical capabilities developed for supervisory stress tests are brought into the daily risk surveillance program.

CT-12: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CT-11 level; or Specialized experience is defined as experience applying analytical techniques, automated tools, data visualizations, and related methods to analyze large databases. In addition, experience using tools such as SAS, Matlab, R, and Python, ability to mine large databases, and create data visualizations. This experience may have been gained either through academic coursework or research related to a master’s or doctoral degree, or work experience.
CT-13: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CT-12 level; or specialized experience applying analytical techniques, automated tools, data visualizations, and related methods to analyze large databases in the context of financial markets – stocks, bonds, futures, options and swaps or OTC derivatives. In addition, knowledge of derivatives market structure (which may have been gained as a mid-level Economist, mid Risk Analyst or other financial professional).
CT-14: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/CT-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as (1) using economic and statistical theories and trading techniques relating to the derivatives markets and related cash markets to measure, monitor and assess risk factors; and (2) developing new analysis techniques, automated tools, data visualizations, data analysis, and mining of very large databases; and (3) using software applications for the analysis, reporting, and visualization of data contained in databases and the ability to develop working software prototypes for advanced analytics capabilities; (4) communicating with technical staff about technology improvements and market participants about study results; (5) knowledge of derivatives market structure, and of risk management concepts, techniques and methods in the context of financial market activities and institutions; (6) knowledge of functions and roles clearing houses and their risk management systems and processes.
*The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
Desirable - applicants who possess either a master's or doctoral degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
