The Assistant Inspector General for Audits is responsible for the functional development, implementation and supervisor of DHS' audit activities. This is a staff function with the incumbent working under the general direction of the Inspector General and Deputy Inspector General. The incumbent directs audit activities designed to (1) promote economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in agency programs and operations, and (2) to prevent fraud and abuse.

Background Investigation, Credit Check & Security Clearance Requirement: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background investigation for Top Secret/SCIclearance as a condition of placement in this Special Sensitive position. Probationary Period: Persons newly selected for career appointment to the SES must have their ECQs approved by the OPM Qualifications Review Board and will be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
