1st Area of Consideration (AOC) will be Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, Fayetteville, AR employees and other VHA employees. 2nd AOC will be all US Citizens and all other federal employees.
The primary duty of the Physician Assistant (PA) as mid-level provider is to manage the responsibility of performing comprehensive patient assessment by performing history and physical exams, order/interpret diagnostic test (e.g. UA, bladder scan), develop treatment plans, schedule additional follow-up, initiate referral consults (internal and external). Will perform minor procedures (e.g. foley insert/change/irrigation, dilation, wound care) in clinical setting and inpatient settings. Prescribes medications within scope of practice. Conducts patient education/counseling (e.g. disease process, recommended therapy/procedure, adverse effects of therapy, expected outcomes, pre-op instructions, foley/wound care), conducts patient consultation in the absences of a Urologist, completes necessary documentation in electronic medical record (e.g. progress note, consult, discharge summary). The PA is expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Chief Grade: Experience/Education: Generally in this grade, must be able to demonstrate the behaviors listed in the areas below after 5 years of professional practice as a PA; and, minimum education is a Master's Degree from a PA training Program accredited by the ARC-PA or in a health-related field of study. However, experience as a PA may be substituted for a Master's Degree where the individual has an equivalent knowledge of the profession and has successfully undertaken a combination of difficult or complex assignments in several clinical, administrative, research and educational arenas. Management/Administrative: Accepts substantial/continuing responsibility for managing/coordinating a healthcare program; successfully integrates the activities of employee's assignments with care programs; Develops policies/procedures in executive decision making; participate in long range program planning and mode development. Clinical Competencies: 1) Clinical Proficiency evaluates facility patient care delivery systems; validates/identifies barriers to safe/effective care; Exhibits leadership, facilitates delivery, and clinical skills in patient care programs. 2) Professional Development developing/implementing training programs, provides personnel with link between education/practice; coordinates training; maintains close relationships with affiliated schools; serves on education/training committees. 3) Ethics provides leadership in addressing ethical issues; participates in education of facility staff. 4) Interpersonal Skills demonstrates leadership in productive working relationships; effectively collaborates and interacts with other medical facilities. 5) Research conducts approved merit approved research projects; performs independent research; effectively researches problems; directs independent research of considerable interest and value.
