Major duties include, but are not limited to:

Credentialing Specialist has continuing responsibility for specialized duties to accomplish the mission and function of the credentials program at the VAMC.
Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of credentialing.- Assists C&P Manager or Analyst in drafting local credentialing procedures for LIP and Non-LIPs.
Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Manages provider applications (initial) for Non-LIPs credentialing within the VAMC
Upon receipt of individual credentials' files for review, Credentialing Specialist ensures primary source verification to include, but not limited to, state licenses, certifications, and required certifications.
Assures application packages and other documents meet technical requirements per specialty of provider and assures application folder and database account (VetPro or other internal databases and spreadsheets) meet technical requirements.
Conducts final appointment into the VetPro database, after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities.
Develops and provides routine and special reports as requested by the C&P Manager/Analyst.
Consistently communicates and treats internal and external customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Credentialing Specialist holds the credit card and is responsible for maintaining records, reconciling monthly charge statements and verifying legitimacy of requests for NPDB Single and CQ enrollments/ renewals, licensure verification (if applicable), National Student Clearing House, Work Number and certifications (if applicable).
The incumbent is responsible for compliance with all purchase card requirements including reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies with Fiscal Service. Incumbent is an authorized user of the Government Purchase Card.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/12/2021.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

GS-6 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating and/or planning technical programs in an office.
- Data collection and interpretation.
- Preparation of documents and reports.
- Managing and tracking of data and documents.
- Performing regular audits of electronic documentation.
GS-7 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
- Providing administrative and technical direction and support to program operations.
- Verifying information related to education, training, and licensure, from entities such as state licensing agencies, specialty certification boards, universities, and other healthcare facilities.
- Educating departments and managers on program requirements and changes.
- Managing and tracking of complex data from multiple sources.
- Utilizing organization credit card to make purchases ensuring funds are available and payments are reconciled timely.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items. The work is performed in an office setting which require normal safety precautions typical for office and meeting rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
