Duties
Assists patients/residents with activities of daily living, i.e., bathing, shaving, feeding, oral hygiene, ambulation, dressing, etc.. Assists nurses, therapists and other staff in the rehabilitation and/or providing care for patients/residents who are not able to perform functions independently. Ability to use clean and aseptic technique to perform various non-medication interventions, i.e., cleansing wounds, assisting with dressing application, performing catheter care, and applying external catheters, etc. Cares for bedridden patient and prevents complications of immobilization by turning, maintaining proper body alignment, assists with range of motion exercises, assists with deep breathing and cough.
Provides adequate nutrition and hydration. Observes enteral feedings per N/G and/or gastro tube for safety and notifies RNs of concerns or issues. Accurately monitors intake and output and daily weight as ordered. Monitors intravenous fluids by informing the nurse of the need to add fluids, any alarms or any patient concern, including pain, redness or swelling.Participate in activities that promote safety for the Veteran and others in the work area, including, but not limited to, performing monitoring of the patient safety monitoring system after completion of orientation and completion of competency demonstration. Performs other duties as assigned for the position.
Experience appropriate to the duties of the position such as non-professional nursing care, work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aide. While working in the above areas the duties must have included technical and medical support functions such as personal care needs, i.e., bathing, feeding, lifting, taking vital signs collecting specimens or other functions which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g.,professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Other duties as assigned.
