The Research Nurse is a professional nurse who demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The Research Nurse, will interact with Primary Investigators, research staff and study participants in implementing study procedures. Demonstrates leadership by involving others in improving care. The Research Nurse at this level must have knowledge of the FDA/ICH GCP requirements. The incumbent has the relevant experience, knowledge and skill in managing clinical research projects and/or programs including but not limited to; managing research settings and coordinating trials (including following protocols, enrolling and interviewing patients, and obtaining informed consent); knowledge of all applicable federal and VA regulatory policies and guidelines that govern projects, including those specific to research-based projects; ability to serve as the liaison with participating investigators, coordinating center personnel, VA Central Office staff, and regulatory bodies; and ability to develop materials for and participation in meetings with participants, investigators, staff, and funding agency personnel.
Duties include:
1. Leads change in practice by planning, designing, implementing and evaluating guidelines, protocols and standards in collaboration with leadership.
2. Tracks, trends and interprets data to plan educational activities for staff. Assists staff in selecting educational activities to fit their needs.
3. Identifies and assesses resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action.
4. Uses technology and educational methodologies to enhance the transfer of learning.
5. Supports, participates and contributes to educational programs for staff at the clinic/service/departmental level.
6. Guides staff in the application of critical thinking and process improvement to improve patient care.
7. Facilitates the learning experiences of Advance Practice Nurses, RNs, LPNs and support staff.
8. Systematically evaluates current practice and formulates outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise.
9. Provides leadership in the implementation of the competency program throughout the clinic/service. Consults with affected parties to develop area specific initial and annual competencies. Verifies competencies of other nursing staff.
The Research Nurse reports directly to the Associate Chief of Staff, Research & Education Service. This position does not have any direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
