Prepare surfaces for painting using applicable technical instructions for scuffing and washing substrates prior to application of coatings.
Reduce paint to the required viscosity, validate and apply coating to thickness requirements and test for proper adhesion to include dry film thickness.
Apply various coatings using Hi Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) pressure spray guns, pressure pots, gravity gun, brushes, and aerosols.
Mix, reduce and apply specialty/high performance coatings, performs more difficult painting tasks and trains equal or less grade employees to perform these tasks.
Locate technical requirements in- order to perform paint associated requirements and accurately document work accomplished.

This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
This position requires passing an annual Industrial Hygiene-Occupational Health Clinic Chromium VI/Isocyanate Examination.
This position requires passing and maintaining a respirator medical clearance. MUST BE CLEAN SHAVEN.
This position requires passing an annual vision test for acuity, depth and color perception.
This position requires successfully completing training in hazardous waste management procedures within six months (6) after the date of appointment and must participate in annual review.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Painter~ without more than normal supervision.The ability to prepare and apply paint to achieve desired performance finish on aircraft, airframes, component parts, and related equipment. Perform all paint process requirements (cleaning, masking, priming, painting and de-masking, cutting and applying stencils). Reduces paint to the required viscosity, validate and apply coating to thickness requirements and test for proper adhesion to include dry film thickness. Applies various coatings using Hi Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) pressure spray guns, pressure pots, gravity gun, brushes, and aerosols.

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out

Physical Effort: Required to prepare and coat surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms where, the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard-to-reach places (confined spaces). Requires standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment that weigh up to 35 pounds. Occasionally may handle materials and equipment that weigh up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Continual use of arms, hands and fingers. Works in areas with known tripping hazards due to working and breathing air hoses in order to perform assigned tasks in paint booths.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is done inside and fumes are usually present. Frequently may be required to work on elevated work areas while wearing protective equipment (fall equipment) and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. The painting workers are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. Subject to considerable noise. They may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones. Requires the use of personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, respiratory devices, coveralls, gloves, safety shoes, and proper eye protection, as appropriate.
