Duties

Help
  • Receive, disassemble and inspect dental supplies, instruments and equipment.
  • Determine the appropriate method for sterilizing dental equipment.
  • Conduct periodic inventory of supplies, instruments and equipment.
  • Operates and adjusts dental and radiographic equipment.
  • Provide training, mentoring and orientation to less experience staff on dental sterilization techniques.
  • Perform adjustments to dental and radiographic equipment.
  • Prepare surgical trays with instruments and materials for dental procedures.
  • Monitor patients during treatments for signs of shock or other distress conditions.

  • This position requires that incumbent be certified as a radiographer.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing during employment.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position may require a two probationary period.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: which includes receiving, ordering, disassembling and inspecting dental supplies, instruments and equipment, utilizing both manual and mechanical sterilization cleaning methods, record keeping and troubleshooting equipment, operating and maintaining water purification/filtration system and the ability to assist dentist providing treatment to patients.

Education: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as, Dental Equipment, Dental Instruments, Dental Materials, Disease Transmission (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Specialized experience as described, but less than one year; and I have some education leading to a bachelor's degree but less than required in B. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
