ALL US CITIZENS DIRECT HIRE AUTHORITY: This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (COVID-19 - VA 002) in-accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3304(a)(3) and 5 CFR 337.205(b)(1)-(4).
This position is located at the William S Middleton VA Hospital and is organizationally aligned under the Nutrition and Food Service. The incumbent of this position is responsible for performing a wide variety of food service activities in a hospital food service setting. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
-Answers patient telephone calls.
-Manages all functions pertaining to diet office communication center.
-Prints meal tickets, nourishment and tube feeding labels.
-Enters meal orders into the commercial software computer system.
-Provides patients with basic information about modified diets.
-Mixes formula or beverages according to label instructions, recipes or dietitian prescriptions.
-Converts metric measurements to the U.S. standard system as needed; adjusts quantities to meet individual or larger quantities.
-Prepares special feedings, thickened items, nourishments for patients on liquid or supplemental feeding.
-Properly operates telephone equipment in order to transfer or place calls on hold.
-Resolves call from units on problems relating to patient meal trays or nourishments.
-Communicates any significant day-to-day events and information including proposed solutions and follow-up to immediate supervisor.
-Reports potential patient nutrition concerns to a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietetic Technician.
-Utilizes sanitary procedures in preparing mixing and serving special nourishments.
-Assists in food preparation as needed.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
