You will:
- Analyze, investigate, research and recommend action on claims submitted under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA);
- Make release determinations to grant or deny official requests for information and prepare responses to requesters and Agency management;
- Ensure personal information and data is collected, maintained, used, or disseminated only as authorized by law;
- Consult with other Federal and State agencies regarding FOIA regulations, related cases and/or requests.
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.

This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
The current duty station for this position is Arlington, VA. There are plans for this position to permanently move to a new duty station, Washington, DC. Anyone selected for this position will be expected to start work or move to the Washington, DC office location when requested.
If you are selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.
We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as making release determinations in response to official requests for disclosure of information; overseeing compliance with records management guidance pertaining to retention, disclosure and destruction of records.
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as making release determinations in response to official requests for disclosure of information; and developing, implementing, or distributing written privacy policies or procedures regarding access to information.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); 2) Skill in providing recommendations to management officials; 3) Skill in preparing written reports based on analysis of varied documentation; 4) Skill in oral communication; 5) Knowledge of records management systems and principles; 6) Skill in information management through the use of information technology; 7) Skill in conducting analyses of legislation and regulations to determine impact on program operations.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
