Shared call no more that 1:4 (All admissions are through hospitalist service)
Primary position at main campus at Togus VA Maine, Augusta Maine with possible rotation as needed in select CBOCS.
Home based cardiac rehab and an active pacer clinic are at the Togus campus
Performs all aspects of general cardiology examinations on established or new patients; inpatient or outpatient consults, ER consults and electronic consults as needed.
Infrequent requests may consist of Compensation and Pension exams and/or Tort Claim reviews.
All aspects of noninvasive cardiology consisting of:
Interpretation of echocardiograms ( stress and dobutamine)
Interpretation of holter monitors and event monitors
Interpret electrocardiograms (EKG's)
Oversee stress lab and lab reporting ( actual testing is performed by NP)
Board eligible or certified in Cardiology
Board eligible/certified in echocardiography
Board eligible/certified in nuclear cardiology
Depending on candidate background and interest other areas might include cardiac CT, or
vascular noninvasive studies
Research interest is encouraged and studies are available for participation
Teaching opportunities with medical students and residents available
Procedural cardiology consisting of (but not mandated):
Performing TEE transesophageal echo
Cardioversions
Experience with temporary pacemaker insertion, Swan Ganz catheter insertion
Experience in permanent pacer insertion, AICD insertion
No cardiac cath /PCI at Togus facility
Participates in quality assurance programs and chart reviews; demonstrates knowledge of and promotes performance improvement in meeting organizational goals. Conducts point of care audits and peer reviews when requested by Chief of Medicine.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/10/2019
Basic Requirements:-United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
-Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
-Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
-Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
-Proficiency in spoken and written English.
-Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: The cardiologist works within his/her privileges at all times. Must be qualified to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with cardiac diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques. The cardiologist is expected to maintain current knowledge and skills. She or he must be able to deliver interventions throughout the full spectrum of Cardiology care, i.e. she or he is expected to maintain good diagnostic and therapeutic acumen.
