Serve as primary park point of contact and provide technical guidance to an integrated professional team for completion of design and construction. Responsible for overall project budget formulation and execution planning/design/construction/exhibit cost estimates, financing procedures). Initiate, establish, guide, track, and coordinate design and construction development. Provide project evaluation against time-phased schedules and budget requirements. Evaluate architecture/engineering studies, plans and specifications to determine constructability, conformance with project scope, and agency requirements. Utilize AutoCad, or similar technical graphic software, for project design and documentation. Prepare contract modifications, justification, independent government cost estimates, and records of negotiations. Collect, analyze, and report project data using project management software. Supervise a work group to include hiring , training of new employees. employee performance, establishing work schedules and assigning work.
Individual Occupational Requirements: Architect, GS-0808-12. If you do not meet these minimum qualifications, you will be considered not qualified and will not receive consideration for this series.
A. Possess a degree in either Professional Architecture or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related discipline of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
B. Possess a combination of education and experience--college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: 1) Related Curriculum: Degree in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in paragraph A. The curriculum for a degree in either architecture or architectural engineering covers function, esthetics, site, structure, economics, mechanical-electrical, and other engineering problems related to the design and construction of buildings primarily (but not exclusively) intended to house human activities. The courses required for a degree in architecture generally place emphasis upon planning, esthetics, and materials and methods of construction, while the courses for an architectural engineering degree place equal or greater weight on the technical engineering aspects such as structural systems, mechanical systems, and the properties of materials. Because of this difference in emphasis, persons with degrees in architecture may have a preference for work assignments that offer greater opportunities for them to express their artistic and creative abilities. As a result, they may be more concerned with planning and design aspects of architecture, and persons with degrees in architectural engineering may be more engaged in aspects emphasizing technical engineering considerations. 2) Experience: An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have had 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE for all series GS-801/807/808/810/830: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
This experience includes activities such as: technical knowledge and experience in the fields of Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Civil Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering with Project Management experience responsible for initiating, establishing, and controlling multiple complex design and construction projects from inception through completion. If you do not meet these specialized experience requirements, you will be considered not qualified, and will not receive consideration for this position.

Knowledge and experience in the fields of Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Civil Engineering, and/or Mechanical Engineering in relation to construction projects, to include experience in reviewing plans and specifications, and performing work in support of complex design and construction projects from inception through completion.To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as in performing regular and periodic construction activities, field inspections, or to observe and study work operations in an industrial, storage, or comparable work area. Depending on project assignments, the work may require periodic to frequent travel of up to five continuous working days and driving a motor vehicle long distances to reach remote parks.
Working Conditions: The work is usually performed in an office setting. The work area involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions typical of offices or meeting and training rooms. The incumbent maybe required to travel to work sites which can involve occasional exposure to conditions in production facilities, laboratories, or construction sites requiring normal safety precautions.

The park embraces 415 square miles of pristine, uninhabited mountains in north-central Colorado and, as such, is the one of the most spectacular, yet easily accessible high mountain areas in North America. With elevations ranging from 7,800 feet at park headquarters to 14,259 feet at the summit of Longs Peak, the park has glacier-sculptured valleys, rugged gorges, alpine lakes, and vast areas of alpine tundra. Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved continuous road in the United States, stays above tree line for 11 miles and reaches 12,183 feet in elevation. Elk, deer, bighorn sheep, moose, coyotes, and smaller animals are found throughout the park, as well as threatened and endangered species, such as the Greenback Cutthroat Trout and Boreal Toad.
