The Visual Information Specialist performs the following duties:
-Designs and executes printed material for manuals, pamphlets, handbooks, computer graphics, and similar types of publications
-Provides layout and design support for the organization's Annual Report, Quarterly Newsletter, and other organizational products for internal and external audiences
-Selects the appropriate medium for execution, suggesting media for incorporation, laying out the design, and converting the request to a finished product suitable for reproduction and/or graphic presentation
-Coordinates, analyzes and reports all visual media production data to the supervisor
-Determines the most appropriate format and medium based on final reproduction, deadlines, and customer's requirements
-Uses various computer peripherals, i.e., film scanners, flatbed scanners, dye sublimation printers, color and black & white laser printers, large format display printers, and computer graphic software to design multi-media digital outputs
-Selects variety of visual materials to be incorporated into visual aids, which communicate information to selective audiences
-Produces comps using effective typography, layout and design to meet deadlines
-Prepares proof layouts for clients conveying an effective visual design of typography,
graphics, and space to maximize visual impact and emphasize visual elements to the audience
-Coordinates layout, design, and execution of printed material destined for distribution
-Plans the assignment, active participation in the coordination of the assignment, and post
critique of the assignment for evaluation purposes
-Researches reference sources and consults with subject matter experts to insure accuracy of visual aids produced
-Operates digital 35mm, and surgical operating room cameras incorporating an assortment of films, digital media, filters, lenses, lighting, and flash equipment
-Photographs patients in the operating room, ward, clinic, and studio
-Photographs surgical and autopsy specimens in the morgue and operating room
-Photographs specialized subject matter such as colorless transparent objects, culture media, poly-acrylamide gels, petri plates, test tubes, and other scientific subject matters
-Photographs a wide variety of subject matter within the Medical Center of a non-medical nature, such as public relations photography of awards presentations, events, accidents, and crime scenes
-Photographs small and large objects in the studio or copy stand using a wide variety of lighting, lenses, and cameras
-Responsible for planning, operating, and utilizing budget to monitor, analyze, and evaluate the financial management impact
-Ensures adequate supplies and equipment meet current and future needs of the department.
-Inventories photography and multi-media supplies and reports to the Supervisor for re-ordering
-Gathers statistical information and tracks workload for department reports
