- Prepare and coordinate the writing of the natural resources sections of resources management plans and specific actions plans pertaining to the management and protection of natural resources.
- Coordinate park natural resources programs with those on adjacent lands for the purposes of achieving broad protection strategies and preventing human impacts.
- Identify research needs, prepare requests for proposals or statements of work, and provide oversight for research projects.
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize scientific information from research, monitoring, resources management actions, and other sources of information then prepare reports for specific projects.
- Serve as the park compliance expert for National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act and other natural resource related laws and policies.

National Park Service
This position, located in the "East Bay" region of the San Francisco Bay Area is part of a four park complex in Contra Costa County. The duty station is located at John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez California, with occasional work conducted at Eugene O'Neill National Historic Site in Danville CA, Rosie the Riveter / WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond CA, and Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial in Concord CA. These four parks are all managed by one combined staff comprised of approximately 30-40 individuals who work exceptionally well with one another. Bay Area winters are moderate and rainy while summers are hot and dry. Martinez is located among several suburban and urban communities in the East Bay, all of which provide housing, retail, health care, entertainment, recreation and other services. Housing costs are extremely high throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and although Martinez is not among the highest in the Bay Area, costs are still considerably higher than the national average. Government housing is nonexistent. Public schools in the area are considered superior.
