These positions serves as a civil engineer on a project management team of engineers, architects and landscape architects. The incumbents can expect to perform life cycle project management from project inception, through project development, design, construction and into operation. The civil engineering project manager also develops and oversees construction and facility support contracts for a variety of facility operations. The incumbents will perform field site surveys and preliminary surveys of facilities, develop work orders and cost estimates in the Facility Management Software System, write and submit project proposals, perform in-house design (plans and specifications) or contract for architect-engineer services, and perform construction contract oversight as a Contracting Officer's Representative. In addition to technical aspects, the project manager is also responsible for managing project budgets, schedule, quality, safety, environmental compliance, and communications. The project manager leads and works with park interdisciplinary teams for successful outcomes.
This position includes extensive field time on construction projects in summer months. Projects include a wide variety of facility types, including office buildings, maintenance buildings, visitor centers, comfort stations, bridges, paved and gravel roads, trails, utility systems, parking areas and picnic areas. Projects include complex features such as: winter climate, difficult terrain; unique vegetation; remoteness; significant variations in rock and soil conditions and seismic influences.
The incumbents deal directly with a wide variety of manufacturing representatives, contracting specialists, contractors, public utilities, Denver Service Center (DSC) representatives, and other Federal, state and local government officials involved in a wide spectrum of operations and ongoing construction projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is mostly sedentary, with some walking during scoping and pre-design activities, and at construction sites for construction observation and final/post inspection phases.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in an office setting, with occasional field visits involving moderate risks from natural surroundings and construction operations. Frequent travel to project sites and other design offices is expected.

Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow.
