The incumbent will be part of the Program Management Organization (PMO) working with professionals from various disciplines such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, etc. The PMO provides program and acquisition management for the FAA infrastructure programs that transform, modernize and sustain the National Airspace System (NAS). The focus of the PMO is engineering, acquisition and second-level engineering software maintenance for the FAA’s automation systems. The goal is for the student trainee to become familiar with programs, projects and functions of the organization.
As a trainee, the incumbent performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex engineering tasks under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee. OR Combination of education and experience - college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1)a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2)a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. THE ADEQUACY OF SUCH BACKGROUND MUST BE DEMONSTRATED BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; OR evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam, or the written test required for professional registration; OR successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences AND in engineering that included the courses specified in paragraph 1; OR successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, provided the applicant had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision.
