Reclamation is seeking a mid-career professional looking to capitalize on their expertise as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist. MAJOR DUTIES
- Prepares environmental evaluations and environmental assessments.
- Responsible for: the collection of biological data using the latest aquatic instream flow methodologies and habitat-based models for application to impact analyses on project-affected terrestrial and aquatic resources; analysis of aquatic and terrestrial habitat data; and collection and analysis of animal-number and user-day information in assessing project costs and benefits.
- Analyzes and incorporates data in biological reports and environmental assessments.
- Gathers appropriate data, assesses habitat values, and prepares habitat replacement and management plans.
- Performs wetlands delineations as needed for Clean Water Act (CWA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance.
- Maintains up-to-date records of fish and wildlife mitigation enhancement accomplishments.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The work involves about 20 percent field work which may occur in remote areas with rugged terrain and the potential for unfavorable weather conditions. Incumbent will frequently work alone in the field. Physical strength must be sufficient for digging for wetlands delineations, large scale planting or periodic weed control, and hiking over various types of terrain, bending, crouching, stooping and reaching.

Basic Education Requirement
A. Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic education qualification requirement described above, applicants must also possess the following:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience must demonstrate the applicant has been equipped with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is directly related to the work to be performed.
GS-11: Your resume must reflect at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service -OR- three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field of study that is directly related to the duties of this position -OR- a combination of specialized experience and graduate education.
Specialized experience for the GS-11: Experience gathering data, assessing habitat, writing technical reports, completing field surveys, and coordinating and collaborating with project stakeholders (agencies, environmental groups, public); AND experience with at least three of the following: (1) Environmental site assessments, (2) Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance (i.e. wetland delineations, 404, 402, or Stream Alteration permits), (3) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance (i.e. categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, or environmental impact statements), (4) Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance (biological evaluations or assessments or initiation of informal or formal section 7 consultation), or (5) Experience with GIS to map or assess habitat.
