Provide outreach for readjustment counseling to eligible veterans and family members in the Vet Center program. Readjustment counseling includes individual and group counseling to veterans and family members over issues of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and related psychological difficulties, marital and family issues, substance abuse, employment, military sexual trauma, homelessness, bereavement, and other issues impacting upon a veteran's ability to successfully re-enter civilian society.

Readjustment Counselor positions are simultaneously recruited for multiple occupations, due to the unique needs of the Vet Center, but every discipline may not be pursued in every recruitment effort. Grade Level Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates, at the indicated grade levels.
GS-09 MFT (Entry Level): The entry level grade is used for non-licensed MFTs or for MFTs (master's or doctoral level) who are graduates not yet licensed at the independent practice (Journey) level. Unlicensed MFTs at the GS-9 grade level have completed the required education, and are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure. In addition, the candidates must demonstrate the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Vet Centers understand and appreciate Veterans' war experiences while assisting them and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their community."
Vet Centers provide outreach, direct readjustment counseling services, and refer Veterans to local services. The program is designed to provide easy to access services (with minimal bureaucratic barriers) to counter the effects of stigma in accessing mental health services. These services are provided in confidential, easy to access, Veteran friendly community-based locations.
