This employee serves as the Chief of Resources and Facilities Management and provides management leadership by planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the park's facility management, natural and cultural resources and research programs. As a primary member of the site's management team, provides data and recommendations for management of the park and works with the other operations chiefs in development of long-range goals and efficient management programs. Establishes an annual work plan and budget to accomplish the park's long-range goals and objectives. Keeps the Superintendent informed of facility and resources management progress and special situations, and maintains communication with direct reports and partners on activities and decisions which may influence park operations.
In harmony with the Chief of Visitor Services and Administration, the employee conducts the park's operations planning, coordinating, and supervision functions. Establishes goals to increase the efficiency and productiveness of park programs while providing a rewarding work environment for the park staff and partners.

Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects.
Research, analysis, and report writing work is sedentary which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time. Heavy items (e.g. boxes up to 50 pounds) are lifted and moved on a frequent basis. Occasional work with materials which are dusty or stored with protective chemicals may require the use of dust masks, gloves, or other protective devices.
Working Conditions: Work is primarily conducted in an office environment but will require frequent trips to locations within the park. Incumbent is responsible as a member of the Superintendent's staff for maintaining a drug-free workplace.

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is a cultural park located in the village of Flat Rock, North Carolina, in the rural southwestern part of the state. The site is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Carl Sandburg and communicating the stories of his works, life and significance as an American poet, writer, historian, biographer of Abraham Lincoln, and social activist. The site preserves and interprets the 264-acre farm, Connemara, where Sandburg and his family lived for the last 22 years of his life (1945-1967). Schools are within three miles away by bus. Shopping and dining are three miles away in the small town of Hendersonville, NC, where there are also hospitals, doctors' offices and a community college. The University of North Carolina at Asheville is 30 miles away. The Ashville Airport is located 15 miles away. A variety of theater, art and cultural activities are offered in the area. Daytime temperatures can be humid and in the 90's in the summer and as low as the 20's in the winter, with occasional snow. Government housing is not available.
