Employees play an important role in implementing parks native and exotic vegetation management field programs. Duties require the safe, efficient, and often independent operation and maintenance of natural resource field instruments, work tools, and vehicles. Data collection and management may include the use of established protocols, GPS equipment, GIS equipment, and digital cameras. Data collection requires the ability to identify many plants, including grasses, forbs, and shrubs. Employees will work among other crew members, volunteers, and youth groups.
The level of responsibility and complexity of the work will depend on the grade level the employee is hired for. Employee's working at the GS-4 level will perform work under closer supervision, whereas employees at the GS-5, and/or GS-7 levels will perform work more independently or be called upon to lead or instruct others performing field work. Crew members at the GS-07 levels are expected to be able to lead crews and participate in project planning and logistics and prepare reports for resource management projects.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions: Lifting moderately heavy objects, digging, bending, stooping for long periods, and strenuous use of hand tools on uneven terrain. Foot travel may be off trail through dense brush, forest, or rocky slopes. Work is performed in harsh and varied weather out of doors. Some office work required. May work in proximity to herbicide applications and congested roadways. May require carrying a pack (35-50 pounds) over varied terrain for extended periods of time. May require the operation of trucks and all-terrain vehicles.
Relocation: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
