The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Armaments Center is the DoD lead for all lethal and non-lethal warheads (anti-armor, anti-armor personnel, anti-materials, and multi-purpose) and provides warhead technology directly to system integrators throughout Army and DoD The Senior Research Scientist for Warheads Technology will serve as an internationally recognized authority, consultant, and advisor to the Department of the Army and Department of Defense on the theoretical and experimental issues pertaining to warheads technology and performance research. As Senior Research Scientist for Warheads Technology, the incumbent is responsible for the conduct of broad theoretical and experimental programs of basic and applied research. Responsibilities include the development of warheads technology (e.g., warhead mechanics, explosives products of detonation, equations of state, detonation physics, dynamic liner material properties, and fragmentation analysis and the relationship of penetrator performance, munitions system constraints/imposed environments and their relationship to warhead functioning/performance). This position will provide basic scientific support and consultation in the diverse technologies required for increased lethality of the Army's munition and missile systems. Research and development efforts will be conducted in basic science and technologies required to provide optimization of warhead design for increased performance (i.e., detonation physics, warhead mechanics, initiation of energetic materials, employing specialized/advanced state-of-the-art techniques, application of warhead mechanics and modeling). Furthermore, these efforts will involve investigation of detonation products, liner interactions/technology to integrate them with advanced modeling codes as well as theory for the investigation of malfunctions, derivation of new/improved warhead designs and concepts to defeat newly evolving threats. The Senior Research Scientist for Warheads Technology will report directly to the Director CCDC Armaments Center, a Tier 2 SES position. |
