The Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection) is responsible for collecting appropriate fees at a park entrance station, visitor center, and/or campgrounds station following established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operates an electronic cash register, computer or Point of Sale system, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, vessel permits, park passes and federal recreation passes in accordance with established guidelines, verifying entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. Processes refunds or upgrades as needed according to established guidelines, completes shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold and all machine transactions from the shift, receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Safeguards funds collected and personal accountable stock. Incumbent will be required to wear NPS Uniform and adhere to Uniform standards. The position requires standing and possible exposure to vehicle emission. Temperatures in the summer months can reach over 100 degrees.

Working Conditions: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods.
