WG-4749-05 Major Duties: Perform routine maintenance of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities. Assists higher graded maintenance workers or tradesmen in the performance of their work and on special project work. Performs the following: carpentry repairs using power and hand tools, painting using brushes and rollers, minor plumbing such as tightening and replacing fittings and washers, using a plunger as necessary. Mows grass, and maintains trees and shrubs. Performs routine maintenance around campground sites and trails, collects trash, cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms and other facilities. Operates light truck to pick up supplies or to transport materials to and from work sites.
WG-7 Major Duties: Including the above duties and completing projects related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry. Assignments cover a wide range of tasks related to the construction and maintenance of buildings and utilities. Performs construction projects utilizing initiative, working alone, or with assistance. On-site determination of methods to accomplish tasks assigned will be the individual's responsibility. Instructions will be of a general nature at times, and will be either verbal or written. Many tasks call for innovation and initiative .You may be required to lead lower graded employees while accomplishing these projects.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate. Requires occasional lifting or handling of objects and materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following property lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. May be required to stand or walk for long periods of times throughout the day.
Working Conditions: You will be exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors including hot and humid temperatures, wind, cold, snow, ice, and rain. You may be working from ladders or scaffolding subject to fall hazards. You will be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals from cleaners, paints, and solvents. You may be exposed to electrical hazards. And you will be exposed to biting and stinging insects such as mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, wasps, spiders, etc.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the south shore of Lake Superior between the communities of Munising (population 2,500) and Grand Marais. The duty station for these positions is Munising. Government housing may be available for rent. Amenities in Munising include basic shopping, medical facilities, and K-12 schools. Grand Marais has a population of less than 500 people and shopping is limited. Summers are generally warm and pleasant. The winter season may extend from October to May and is often characterized by cold temperatures and seasonal snowfall in excess of 140 inches. The area is rich in outdoor sporting activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, biking, camping, and skiing.
