Performs and assists higher graded employees in reviewing and revising the program's operating plans and budget, as well as monitoring expenditures for staffing, equipment, supplies, and material requirements; and drafts the annual VS budget and operating program.
Schedules staff work times, special events, meetings and other uses at the center. Identifies facility deficiencies and troubleshoots equipment/exhibit problems.
Participates in the coordination, development, and implementation of the VS Plans and updates, prepares annual operating plans detailing staff needs, special projects and other tasks to be undertaken on an annual basis.
Pursues grant funding opportunities and coordinates with other partners in updating exhibits or improving informational services. Prepares annual and other reports, as needed.
Coordinates visitor center programs. Assures compliance with regulations, policies and procedures for planning, development, management and operation of visitor center.
Recognizes trends in visitation, usage and operations to evaluate their significance and assist in implementing changes in recreation and natural resource programs and operations.
Analyzes and evaluates data from the standpoint of impact on recreation or resource management policy and recommends modification as necessary; coordinates with appropriate individuals and prepares draft for recommended approval.
Interprets existing policies and regulations. Provides technical assistance relative to policy on recreation and resource management.
Coaches and evaluates interpretive offerings of staff to improve these interpretive activities. Refines and revises a variety of media outreach to the public such as signage, web content, brochures, application based information, and exhibits. Improves the effectiveness of the message and generates interest by visitors.
Participates in the development, management, and implementation of a high quality and balanced visitor services program by recommending and implementing compatible dependent recreation activities.
Prepares or assists in the development of general resource management plans such as for interpretive exhibits, signage or other plans related to the center's operation.
Performs supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.
Plans the work to be accomplished by the unit, assigns work to employees, and establishes production or quality standards for the unit's work. Establishes and communicates guidelines and performance requirements to employees; conducts formal performance reviews; and identifies and provides for the developmental and training needs of employees. Hears and resolves employee complaints, effects minor disciplinary measures, and recommends action in more serious cases. Performs administrative and human resources management functions for the unit; provides advice, counsel or instruction on both administrative and work matters; and assures full compliance with safety regulations.
